2019/2020 Season Kick Off this Saturday 5th October!

Our new summer season is almost upon us for 2019/2020, so here is some important information for all families to enable the season to kick off as smoothly as possible.  Don’t forget the program is scheduled to start at 8.30am for all age groups, so ensure you get to the centre early enough to collect your bibs, familarise yourself with the centre and have your kids on the track ready for warm up.  Please note about 30% of people in the first few weeks are brand new to athletics, so be patient with those who are carrying the burden and help those who are not sure what to do.

Registration         Please ensure registrations are completed as soon as you can.  This gives us enough time to have registration patches printed for the first day of the season, makes sure the event recording sheets are up to date and that results are recorded electronically.  We will not be updating paper data for results and awards purposes. It is advisable to pay your active membership by Thursday afternoon if you want your bib printed and handed to your child by Saturday morning.  All registrars and committee members have full time jobs and only work on the database afterhours so bibs will be printed first thing Friday morning for Saturday distribution.  If you are too late with your registration, then your bib will be printed the following week.

Program  Over the winter, we have reviewed the weekly program to try and make our Saturday mornings more time efficient.  Our aim is to have a published program every week so that as a minimum, everyone knows what the first event on the program so we start ASAP and are not relying on first/second calls initially.  First up this week is:

·         70m Front Straight – u8 and u9

·         Scissors – u10

·         800m – u11 and u12

·         Triple – u13

·         Shot Put –u14-16

You can view program 1 here which is the program we are running this Saturday for the U8-U16 finishing between 11:00-11:30.  The U6 & U7 will be doing the On Track program which is a skill based program between 8:30 – 9:30.  We require all hands on deck, due to the end of the school holidays and the volume of new try-outs, so please help where you can, even if you’re not allocated on duty.

Training Training will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4.30pm as of Monday 7th October.  Specific events training will be advised.  Relay coaches may have additional times for training based on availability. The Under 6 & 7’s do not do training on Monday or Wednesday afternoon, they have training on Saturday mornings from 8:30

Starters  Some of our long term starters have finished up with their u15/16s last year, so we are on the lookout for anyone that would like to help us run the track program this year.  An intro to starting course is being held on Saturday 19th October at Greensborough (Diamond Valley LAC).  Please let committee members and/or club managers know if you are interested in helping our program.

Officials  We are also on the lookout for any parent that could become a key official at an event on a semi permanent basis (once or twice every cycle).  This year we aim to have one key official at each field event being run.  Please let your club manager or competition director (competition@doncasterlac.org.au)  know if you have an interest or experience in any specific events, as we would love to have passionate and  knowledgeable people in control of all events. The rules are reasonably straight forward and can be found below.  We will also run some informal officials learning sessions during events if required in the first few weeks to show the ropes.

Relay Coaches  Every year the relay season creeps up very quickly and there is never enough time to organise things as well as we would like, but we are usually ahead of the curve.  We are always on the lookout for engaged parents to help out as a coach or team manager for all age groups u9 and above.  Let us know if you are interested.
