Doncaster Little Athletics Relay Competition

Relay Competition

Results sometimes speak for themselves, however endeavor can sometimes go unrewarded. I would like to formally thank all coaches and team managers for all of their effort and enthusiasm on Sunday at the regional Relays.

A number of teams have progressed to 'state' which can never be overstated as a fantastic achievement. I would not like to highlight individual teams, but in general all 'Doncaster Athletes'. The way they handled themselves professionally and humbly as a team is very gratifying.

One thing in particular I would like to highlight. As Coach of the U9 boys ( their first year in relays) it was very gratifying to see so many older kids came up and wish them well. They do look up to the older guys. Special thanks to Haydn and Paul Reynolds. (I left at 645 pm and those two were still going, packing up etc)

The Relay Competition provides the rare opportunity to train and compete as part of a team, rather than as an individual. Relays combine speed, timing and teamwork, giving team-members a chance to encourage and help each other with a shared goal.

Information on the Doncaster Relay program is here
A description of the rules for Relay competition can be found on the Box Hill LAC website

Relay training is held on Monday afternoons and on Wednesdays straight after normal training:

  • Monday 4:30pm-6pm - contact your coach for your team's details
  • Wednesday 5pm-6pm for the U9 teams
  • Wednesday 6pm-7pm for the U10-U15 teams
Additional training times will be organised by the coaches in consultation with team members.

This season's Relay Competition events will be held on 3 days (see the Calendar)

Along with the other competing Centres, Doncaster will need to provide a number of officials at the Regional and State events, and each Relay family will be called on to perform some kind of duty at these competitions. It is, of course, a condition of participation that you are available to carry out a duty.

A great deal of work goes into coordinating our duty and chaos results unless we all play our part, so please adhere to your instructions.
